CMJ 10/22 @ Vaudeville Park
Here are some of my latest circuits/noise-makers
This Domo-Kun circuit is a NAND Gate four-oscillator sound maker. It has two different types of pots and a photoresistor. I cover the screen with my blinking bicycle light to stimulate the photoresisting oscillator for cool rhythmic effects.
The Tea forte' is a 3-oscillator circuit. It's is a hex inverter with two photoresistors & one pot, hooked up through diodes. I get fun ringmod sounds, and sometimes eerie human vocal qualities. Oh, I almost forgot, the pot is also linked to a pair of electrodes for touch sensitivity.

Ekona Jatta, master Akonting player from southern Senegal
If you take a close look at Ekona's right hand, it's so similar to the right hand clawhammer/frailing style in Old-Time music. Incredible!

Nettle at Vaudeville Park with Special Guests
DJ/Rupture's Nettle will be playing within a sculpture show at Brooklyn's Vaudeville Park. This will be part of the "Pairing Off" a.k.a "Music is Art/Music as Art" series at VP. These types of shows are always my favorite because they are intimate and provide an alternate landscape to hear live music. Opening the night are Korean musicians, Seungmin Cha--Eunsun Jung--Woojung Sim, who play shamanistic experimental flute and vocal music. Also, Lamin Fonfana will be doing a live set of sound oscillations from his profound musical vocabulary. This will be Nettle's last shows in a while, so please catch us if you haven't already: )

Nettle Plays Zebulon
DJ/Rupture invited me to join his group Nettle back in February. I would call a Nettle a dark chamber ensemble that is triggered by DJ/Rupture's brilliant electronic alchemy paying occasional homage to the music of North Africa(Gnawa). I'm also very fortunate to have Brent Arnold on cello, Lindsay Cuff on violin, and Bill Bowden on percussion/electronics in this outfit. We play at Zebulon this Thursday, March 10th at 9.30pm. The show is free!!
Tap Dancers at Danspace
I'm very honored to be a part of this special tap show. Michelle Dorrance is a member of STOMP and one of the most phenomenal tap dancers out there; and we go all the way back to Chapel Hill High School!!! I'll be playing guitar on a piece Michelle and I arranged a few months ago. Also, adding choreography is Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, another tap giant doing a tribute to Michael Jackson and Paul Kennedy. This is seriously incredible!!

Video/Sound Collaboration
Derelict Daisy from Brian Zegeer on Vimeo.
This is "Derelict Daisy" a video project that Brian Zegeer created. It is inspired by the Frank/Leslie short "Pull My Daisy"(1959) staring Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlovsky, Gregory Corso, and beautifully narrated by Jack Kerouac.
I did an all electronic performance on this piece using my new inventions-- Tea Forte'(a three oscillator noise cracker), a theremin, various circuit-bent toys, a sampler, and a prepared speaker.
*note--this was a live performance at Vaudeville Park. The sound quality is not the best because we used a video camera mic. We hope to re-record and perform this again in the future. For right now, it will give you an idea of what could happen. Hope you enjoy: )

Living Room Residency Thus Far
Thanks to Dave Berger and Space Pimp for playing the opening night with me. Dave is now in New Zealand enjoying the warm scenery. Also, a big shout out to Emil McGloin for playing baritone and acoustic guitar with me last week. And, of course, Synth-Head#7 for making an appearance Earth all the way from planet Synthia with Anthony Johnson.
Next week, 2/16 at the Living Room will be awesome. We already got a nice writeup on BeaconPass site for this show. This will be the same lineup as my Crystalline Flux show last year. The incredible Emily Manzo on prepared piano, scintillating cellist Brent Arnold, synthesis master-mind Joey Johnson, and the drumming force of Mr. Anthony Johnson.
